AVON Mark - Live Performance at Press Launch
In January 2017, AVON was about to launch their new makeup brand, Mark. They were planning a two-part event: A press launch in the afternoon and a party in the night. And they wanted to invite an artist to create a work of art from scratch, during this press launch.
I've got pretty excited when I got the call. Although they wanted me to be completely free in terms of creativity, there were a few concerns on their side.
It had to be:
1. Something I could finish in 2 hours, until the end of the press launch.
2. Something we could change at the party later at night.
3. Something big. Because the venue had a very high ceiling. And also colors wouldn't hurt since Mark is a pretty colorful brand.
And finally, and most importantly:
4. It should definitely resonate with Mark's claim (and Twitter hashtag): "Makeup is art."
So I decided to paint. A portrait, to be specific.
I designed a 2m x 3m wooden black frame with a green plexiglass inside, to be the background of my 1m x 1.5m canvas. I used acrylics and makeup such as color sticks, foundation cream, and nail polish. I used laser-cut wooden pieces for the brows, the eyes and the lips to make the whole thing look more 3-dimensional. You can see the process and the result below.
