Stars My Destination
I admire colours and texture. Papers have both, plus you can even have some depth if you use the right kind of adhesive and leave some space between the layers. It’s like real life version of a PSD file. It’s especially fun and effective, when you’re trying to create a poster.
So I like to create some fan-art in my spare time with paper. Mostly I don’t even publish them, but here are two I’m particularly proud of.
As a sci-fi enthusiast, Alfred Bester's "Tiger! Tiger!" is one of my favorite books. The beautiful poem from the book goes like this:
Gully Foyle is my name
Terra is my nation
Space is my dwelling place
Stars my destination
And it’s basically about a guy with a red tiger tattoo on his face which becomes visible whenever he’s angry. He’s lost in space and trying to find his way back.
This one is quite old (2013), and it’s not a very complex design. But I still like it very much, probably because of the colours and the way it looks so from 80’s.
I was inspired by the song “Nightcall” by Kavinsky from the original motion picture soundtrack of the movie Drive (2011).
